Thread, Trowel, and Thimble

Crafts, gardening, and the quiet art of making do.

Hi, I’m Kate! Welcome to our little slice of the world—a half-acre of land, a handful of plants, and the people (and pets) who make it feel like home. Today, I want to introduce you to the full crew that makes our small homestead lively, cozy, and sometimes a little chaotic.

Kate (That’s Me!)

Of course, I have to include myself—I’m the human behind all the crafts, gardening experiments, and blog posts. I’m the one who dreams up DIY projects, organizes the chaos, and tries to keep our tiny homestead running smoothly (most days!). I love reading, crafting, binge-watching TV, and playing video games with Michael—but my favorite part of the day is spending time at desk or in the garden, creating and tinkering with whatever inspires me next.

Michael

Next is my husband, Michael. He’s hardworking, supportive, and endlessly patient—especially when it comes to my DIY and craft obsessions. He works full-time like me, but no matter how busy he is, he’s always willing to lend a hand to bring my visions to life—whether that’s helping build a shelf, setting up a garden bed, or just carrying a heavy bag of soil. He’s my partner in life and in this homestead adventure.

Rosie

Our 9-month-old Cavachon, Rosie, is the spark of energy in our little crew. Sweet, curious, and endlessly playful, she loves exploring our half-acre yard, “helping” with garden projects, and curling up on the couch after a long day of puppy adventures. She’s chaos and cuddles all wrapped into one adorable little package. We thought she might grow out of chewing absolutely everything by now—but so far, no such luck.

Loki

Then there’s Loki, a very sweet boy somewhat ironically named after the mischievous Norse god. Despite his name, he’s one of the most affectionate members of the crew. He often hops onto my lap while I’m working at my desk, settling in as if it’s his official workstation. One of his favorite habits is licking our noses to say hello. When he was a tiny kitten it was adorable—but now that he’s grown, his tongue feels more like sandpaper than kisses! At night, he insists on sleeping under the covers. When it comes to cuddling, he proudly holds the title of runner-up to Rosie, but he certainly makes sure the competition stays close.

Here Loki is asking to get up on my lap at my desk!

Atticus (Bubbas)

Finally, we have Atticus—better known around here as Bubbas. He’s a chunky monkey with a huge personality and a voice to match. Bubbas is the household commentator, never shy about announcing his opinions or reminding everyone when it’s dinner time. A little dramatic and very talkative, he brings plenty of entertainment to the house. But beneath all that sass is a big softie. Bubbas has an incredible ability to sense when someone is feeling anxious or down, and he’ll hop onto the couch, nuzzle close, and refuse to leave your lap until you feel better. he is big, loud, loyal, and full of love.

Our tiny homestead crew may be small, but we bring so much life, personality, and love to our little half-acre. Between me dreaming up projects, Michael’s helpfulness, Rosie’s puppy energy, Loki’s lap snuggles, and Bubbas’ comforting presence, every day is full of laughter, creativity, and a little chaos—just the way we like it.

Stay tuned—I’ll be sharing more about our adventures, DIY projects, and life on our microhomestead. And yes, you’ll get to meet each of these characters again in all their glory, because every good project involves a little help from your furry (and human) friends.
